Ferguson's Loyalist Militia
Liberty Mountain's living history initiative began in 2014, when interest, networking and research led us to attend many Revolutionary War themed reenactments in our area. Fort Defiance in Lenoir, NC, Hickory Ridge in Boone, and the Kings Mountain National Military Park and Cowpens National Battlefield. Our unit interprets the backcountry loyalist militia and limited loyalist provincials included in Major Patrick Ferguson's force from May-October,1780. We also teach about Major Ferguson's life, career and accomplishments, and we often bring a real Ferguson Ordnance Rifle of the Major's patent with us to living history events all over North and South Carolina.
What sets Ferguson's Loyalists apart?

Accurate Portrayals
The Loyalists in the Carolina Backcountry were a formidable presence, they represented as great a threat to American Independence as the British Regulars who trained and led them. We go the extra mile to bring credence and relativity to these important historical figures.

Educational Focus
Ferguson's Loyalist Militia is led by trained and certified educators, and many of our living historians and portrayers are also experienced and qualified educators. We all love bringing history back to life, but teaching about and inspiring others to learn this history is our top focus.

Committed to the Truth
We put propaganda and revisionist texts to the side and focus on information from personal journals and first person accounts that survived the test of time. The past was nuanced and complicated like the present, we capture the complicated truth in every detail of our impressions.
We also bring a real Ferguson Ordnance Rifle and offer live firing demonstrations, as well as marching and training drills with Loyalist Provincials. And we bring our horses and Major Patrick Ferguson commands his troops from horseback using his famous silver whistle.
